How to get there

From Brisbane electric trains and buses are available to travel to Woombye (about an hour and a half to two hours travel).  Commuter buses (Sunair.com.au, costs Aus$33 one way) travel from Brisbane to Sunshine Coast every hour (6am - 10pm).

There are direct flights to Maroochydore from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne via Jetstar / Virgin / Tiger Airways.

People who have booked accommodation should contact Ros or Roy to arrange to be transported from Maroochydore or Woombye to Avatar’s Abode.  People coming for a day visit should phone Bill (07)5442 1248, Ros or Roy (07)5442 1544 or Bernard Bruford - (07) 5442 1487 for directions and information.

For overseas visitors, it could be worth considering entering Australia through Cairns, visiting the Barrier Reef and continuing your flight to Brisbane as an international traveller.

Local Transport

Avatar’s Abode is situated 4km from the village of Woombye which has a rail and bus service to towns in the area and Brisbane.  However, as Avatar’s Abode is in a bush setting and is isolated, hiring a car is an advantage.  The surrounding country is very beautiful and has many lovely areas to visit.  But they are not well serviced with public transport.  Sometimes local Baba Lovers can help out.

When to visit?

All year round.  A special time to come is for the Anniversary of Meher Baba’s visit to the property.  The Anniversaries are held on the Queen’s Birthday three-day weekend in June — this is held on weekend with the second Saturday in June.  Accommodation on the property at this time is generally only available to volunteer workers at the Anniversary.
